The Weeks Keep Rolling Along

These are the things Pookie misses by having to work late on Monday nights: unpacking my jellyroll of Whimsy, and enjoying an iceberg lettuce salad on the couch in front of the Olympic curling. (Of course, we’ll sit in silence later tonight while the ice dancing is being tivoed, so it’s not all skittles and beer.) –Schn.

I must be getting out of my photography rut since I took 46 pictures while milling around just before dinner. — Pookie

So after seeing elizabeth’s pictures of Bent Spoon cupcakes earlier this week, we were all in agreement that Maple Hoo needed to be cupcaked up, stat. Boomer made a run into Princeton, but was distracted at the store by the apparently solid-gold quince branches she saw at the store next door, and didn’t realize they had given her mini cupcakes instead of real ones. What kind of cupcake purveyor hears "cupcake" and assumes that means "mini"? Since when are mini cupcakes the baseline? Anyway, Boomer was distraught when she realized the error, but by then we were all home, it was evening, and it was too late to fix it. But that’s okay, because despite their diminutive stature, the cupcakes were delish.

What’s better than an unexpected nap due to an early closing at work? Nothing! That’s what!

Schnookie challenged me to a “get up off the couch” challenge to see what we could get at dusk in the yard after a big day of sitting and watching the men’s cross country ski marathon. What a race! — Pookie

The only good thing about mini cupcakes is by nature they usually have a higher frosting to cake ratio.

    Lovely pictures, as usual.

The Midwest is finally catching up on the cupcake craze about 10 years after the east coast. We have 3 cupcake purveyors here in my little burg. Only one is worth getting up off the couch for, though.

I resisted the cupcake thing for a loooooong time, so I’m kind of on pace with the Midwest. It really has to be a special cupcake, though. You’re so right — who wants to get up off the couch for a lousy cupcake? I’m fully capable of making lousy cupcakes for myself, thankyouverymuch! :P (The ones from the Bent Spoon here in Princeton are outrageous, though. I’ve had cupcakes from the seminal cupcake places in NYC, and they don’t hold a candle to the Bent Spoon.)
